creative pursuits this week fun sewing ahead!! from Not Afraid of Color

I haven't actually finished anything but I did pack away Fall scraps and fabrics, and got out the bag of Christmas scraps to hopefully make a few tree skirts this year...

I emptied out the bag and sorted the pieces into shapes and sort of sizes

I collected some google images into a page of tree skirt ideas (see on the bottom right) but will mainly go on what scraps I have probably. Already starting with matching squares into 4-patches there

some strips, some wide, some narrow and long

two needle books to be finished off
squares, and a ...

creatively speaking this week, painting and sewing from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to this week's creativity round-up. It was full of painting/art workshop videos, hexie sewing, and Fall scrap love. Above is one close up of my quilt as you go Halloween quilt for this year, I had lots of fun looking through my collection for motifs to use

I'm still hand sewing the finished hexie quiltlets together but nearly done.
I used 6 different purples as backing for the little pieces. You cut the backing large enough that after you quilt the hexie, you fold the backing up and over to the front, letting you see the ...

watching paint dry this week.... stretching my creativity from Not Afraid of Color

For my quilt making update, I did baste the three layers of this quilt (my Portal) together. I safety pin the layers, backing is a lovely fall print, batting is warm and natural, the top was made a bit ago. It's the back breaking task I dislike the most in quilting. It's ready to machine quilt now! yea! but....

... my beloved Bernina 1630 sewing machine began failing just as this was ready to go. I have replaced the motherboard in it, twice,  at Hinkletown Sewing in PA. They charge a couple hundred, the other stores charge thousands. I ...

living a creative life sewing by hand, painting on paper, using a fountain pen from Not Afraid of Color

I was able to finish this month's EPP project in Aqua. I love this color, hard to define and I like all shades of blue green. This is fabric scrap basted to a paper shape, then edges sewn by hand.

Close up of  all the different fabrics

I used two dotted fabrics for hexies, this time, scrap wasn't large enough for all hexies this time

(the color of the month at rainbow scrap challenge is aqua)

you can see the blue shade is different from aqua

I started using my Fude nib fountain pen this wee,

the butterfly ...

creativity this week... sewing, runs with scissors, sketching and a cookie from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to my creativity round up for the week...

This is my rainbow scrap challenge purple piece for the week.... all the papers are now basted and ready for me to hand stitch while watching tv tonight. I love having a variety of scraps so that I can see my fabrics! I'm trying to do dots in all the joining hexie shapes in each colorway.

I used my portable design table (cardboard covered in felt) to arrange these a few days ago. I didn't like one of them so I found another scrap to baste around the paper ...

last row on my sunflower quilt, watching paint dry, and using my purple scraps from Not Afraid of Color

Let's start the week with the last row on my stay at home round robin quilt

the prompt was "letters or numbers" so I found a wonderful quote on sunflowers, changed it up a bit, and printed it onto a sheet of prepared for printing sheets

along with an image of one of my paintings (not to waste the sheet of printable fabric on one quote)

I pieced it in with some blue sky fabric, bird and dragonfly fabrics...

I think it needs a bit of border around the whole thing, like a frame, how about this sparkly blue ...

sewing/creativity round up "Indoor Gardening" from Not Afraid of Color

I spent the week sewing, writing, painting and drawing... with some creative cooking going on too. (we'll not talk of chores also done)  I cook out of necessity but it does not bring me joy... although now and then I notice something artistic while cooking like this swirl

boiling buttermilk, cocoa and butter to make icing

I wrote a short essay with the prompt "stay curious" yesterday and would love you to read it and add your two cents  (HERE IT IS)

While thinking about the curiosity factor in art making, and how I love each medium I use ...
